A Tribute to Joan of Arc (double sided medal)

As a teenager, she rose from an obscure village into prominence, and she did so as an uneducated peasant. At the age of 13, Joan began to hear voices, which she determined had been sent by God to give her a mission of overwhelming importance: to save France by expelling its enemies, and to install Charles as its rightful king. One of the voices was that of Archangel Michael, the leader of the Army of God and the leader of heaven's forces against all evil. Joan of Arc was officially canonized in 1920, the Maid of Orléans (as she was known) and has long been considered one of history’s greatest saints, and an enduring symbol of French unity.  It is said that no person of the Middle Ages, male or female, has been the subject of more study than Joan of Arc.  For centuries women have looked to Joan for inspiration, faith and wisdom. She operated within a religious tradition that believed an exceptional person from any level of society might receive a divine calling.  “Act and God will act.”
